Quotable quotes heard at the wedding:

-Heard during Jan’s rendition of She as Anna made her entrance
  • Di mo ba ako irereceive?
-Anna to Jan at the start of the ceremony
  • Anna… Tagalog sana yung vows ko–pero sige, English na lang…
-Jan to Anna during recitation of their vows

What else did you hear? Please post your comments! Would be glad to hear them so we can post it here!

Hello! Finally Anna and I got married last Dec 9. Thank you to all of those who came despite the heavy traffic and rain. Although there were a lot of technical glitches at the event–all in all Anna and I are happy as it came out to be a fun and memorable event for our guests. Also the food was great!

Thanks!

Web 2.0 tools December 13, 2006

Filed under: Interests, Wedding, Work-related — jpabellon @ 7:30 pm

Have been playing around with these newfangled Web 2.0 websites lately–and have decided to use them extensively for this blog. For our RSVP page, I used an online Web 2.0 form creator called Wufoo. For our photo album I used Picasa’s Web Album service. Am now toying with Zoho Writer and Zoho Sheets for the IT in Business class I am teaching for posting of online documents and spreadsheets. Currently I am toying with the ubiqitous YouTube for posting online our Wedding AVPs.

Last night of bachelorhood. December 8, 2006

Filed under: Interests, Wedding — jpabellon @ 8:08 pm

Things have been very busy lately… Have hardly had any time to post on our blog.

Last night Anna and I went to the Philippine Web Awards. I was one of the semi-finals judges–any my job was to screen the entries for the finals judges to judge the winner for each category.

Saw some familiar faces there. All in all it was a fun night with a memorable performance from the band “Join the Club.”

On another note, this is my last entry as a bachelor!

Am posting at the Robinsons Galleria, looking looking for a video adapter for our laptop so our AVP can play!

Anyway will post again soon…

On another note, for those of you who will be attending our wedding, take note the RSVP form and maps are here and here.

See you there!

Furniture hunt November 1, 2006

Filed under: Wedding — jpabellon @ 5:23 pm

Its been a while since I was able to post to our blog as we have been very busy the last few weeks moving to our new home. We were able to move the 1st week of October and spent the last few weekends moving our stuff and buying new furniture for our place.

For decorating and design ideas for our new home, the magazine Real Living has been a real help. I was able to buy an isssue with recommendations for the best places to buy furniture which helped us a lot in narrowing our hunt.

At about the same time, SM announced their major sale for the season–this was fortunate as Anna and I jumped at the chance to buy a new mattress, drawers, a sofa, and kitchen utensils. Malaki din ang natipid namin since the discounts ranged from 10 to as high as 30 percent.

Not all of our things are new however–a lot of things are either hand-me-downs or pre-wedding gifts from our parents. Anna’s Dad gave her their old electric range and old bed. Anna also brought along her old TV and stereo component. I brought my old bookshelf, lamp, and some kitchen appliances.

Our hunt is not yet over though as we still lack some needed stuff. Will blog in the next couple of weeks for updates…

Finalizing the caterer October 2, 2006

Filed under: Wedding — jpabellon @ 8:36 pm

Last Saturday, Anna and I, along with our Ninang Necy went to the MMLDC food tasting event. We went there to finalize our choice for the caterer for our wedding. The choice was limited however to MMLDC’s list of pre-accredited caterers which was not really a problem because the best or at least the popular ones were well represented.

At the food tasting event was Hizon’s catering, Manila Catering, VS&F catering and MMLDC’s own in-house caterer. Each one was asked to present food and a motif consistent with a theme that MMLDC offers. VS&F for example was asked to do an Oriental theme, Hizon’s was asked to do a Carribean theme, Manila Catering was asked to follow an American theme and so on.

Those who attended the event were asked to first sit through a presentation of the vendors and afterwards were also asked to rate the catererers one by one in terms of quality of food and presentation. Below is my assesment of each one:

  • Hizon’s catering:
Pros: Generally excellent tasting food. They have got the Filipino taste nailed. You cant go wrong specially if will have a lot of old-timers in your guest list.
Cons: Generally poor presentation compared to the other caterers who were there. Their centerpieces were lackluster, their silverware/utensils were not really special. They couldnt even follow the theme. The waiters/attendants generally seemed clueless. Theirs was supposed to be a tropical/beach type arrangement and food. Instead it looked like standard Filipino buffet fare with rice, pork and beef.
  • VS&F:
    Pros:
Generally nice presentation, nice silverware, nice centerpieces.
Cons: Nothing really stood out. The teriyaki was nice tasting but not great. The dessert was so-so. Generally OK but nothing note worthy. At least they were able to follow the theme.
  • Manila Catering
    Pros:
Excellent presentation of food, with nice variety in colors and texture. They were consistent with the theme, and had good looking plates and silverware. Their table centerpieces were well put together and was generally consisitent with the main buffet table in theme. Waiters seemed very professional and knowledgeable.
Cons: Didn’t really like the food. It tasted like hotel fare which is to say all style and little substance. Food tasted bland and dry–probably would suit better a Westerner’s palette.
  • In-house caterer:
Pros: Just like Manila Catering, had excellent presentation of food, with nice variety in colors and texture. They were more playful with the ingredients and the food was very memorable both in looks and taste.
Cons: Food tasted a little too rich. Felt there were too many ingredients, and spices mixed in.

All in all generally you cant go wrong with these well known caterers. The choice ultimately boils down to the couple’s (and their family’s) personal preferences and taste.
